I became a teacher because two teachers changed my life. One saw me as more than a struggling reader and taught me that reading could be fun—now I’m always reading. Another showed deep care when I missed our field trip, doing every activity for me and bringing back souvenirs. Their kindness and belief in me inspire the teacher I strive to be.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moments as a teacher are when former students return as adults to share their lives with me. Hearing how they’re doing and knowing I made a lasting difference reminds me why I chose this work. Their visits show the impact of being seen, supported, and believed in—and it’s the greatest reward of teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would expand opportunities for my students by building a richer classroom library, adding hands‑on math and science tools, and improving access to technology. I would also fund field trips and real‑world experiences many students might not otherwise have. This investment would help create a joyful, engaging learning environment for every child.
