Tell us why you became a teacher

I didn’t choose teaching—teaching found me. When I was 11, my father died in a helicopter crash, and no one knew what to say or how to help. Through my school library, my librarian, and books, I found comfort, connection, and a safe space to heal. I became a teacher to provide that same guidance, encouragement, and hope for others navigating life’s challenges.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was guiding my elementary newscast team as they wrote, filmed, edited, and submitted weekly broadcasts. Many had struggled in traditional classrooms and needed a safe space. They poured their hearts into it, and their hard work led them to win the State STLP Championships! Watching their growth and joy was my WHY moment.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to pursue experiences that inspire my own children’s books. Teaching and being a librarian have shown me that life’s experiences fuel learning. By living and exploring new opportunities myself, I can better guide students, share real-world examples, and bring richer stories and lessons to the children I teach.
