I became a teacher because I believe education changes lives. I wanted to help create spaces where students feel seen, supported, and challenged to grow. Teaching allows me to build confidence, spark curiosity, and help students discover their strengths. I am inspired by the impact educators had on me, and I want to provide that same encouragement and opportunity for others to realize their potential.

One of my most memorable teaching moments was using STEM to teach ocean conservation through OCEARCH and its shark tracking data. Students analyzed real migration patterns and learned how science protects wildlife. They later held a fundraiser selling shark tracker bracelets and donated all proceeds to OCEARCH. Hearing students say, “When I grow up, I want to work for OCEARCH,” was the most rewarding part. I hope one day they do.

I would use the $25,000 to expand our STEM program, creating a makerspace with robotics, coding, and 3D printing. Funds could support hands-on projects, after-school STEM clubs, and real-world investigations using sensors and data tools. I’d also invest in teacher training to ensure engaging, creative, and inquiry-based learning. This would help students stay excited, build critical thinking, and develop skills for future careers and lifelong learning.
