Teaching lets me see confidence grow, build relationships, and know my guidance can shape how students see themselves.

I was failed by my teachers in elementary school. When I reached out for help, I wasn’t seen or heard, and I suffered severe childhood depression. I wanted to become a teacher so I could truly see children, support them, and be the champion they deserve.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had a kindergarten student join my who had been sexually abused by her father, and Medicaid only provided her with eight counseling sessions. She was carrying enormous trauma, and it showed in overwhelming and challenging ways. I worked tirelessly to build a relationship with her and to support her healing. Now she’s in middle school, and writes to me about how I changed her life. Being a small part of her healing journey—and seeing the impact it had— solidified why I became a teacher.
What would you do with the $25,000?With $25,000, I would finish paying off my car and make much-needed updates to my extremely outdated home. I cannot afford the necessary upgrades this house desperately needs—such as a new roof and siding—without taking out a significant loan, which I am unable to do at this time. As a single mother, the majority of my finances go toward supporting my teenage children in their various activities, giving them opportunities to succeed and thrive. So this would be a dream come true!
