Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a speech-language therapist in schools (known by some as a “speech teacher”) over 20 years ago, because I wanted to help young students with communication difficulties better access the curriculum, navigate social interactions, be successful, and feel good about themselves!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was navigating instruction through the Covid pandemic. I had two student teachers with me at the start of the pandemic. It was my biggest challenge, learning to pivot to telehealth services, engaging students in both individual and group sessions in a new and disconnected way. I embraced the challenge, learned about students’ power of resilience, and made myself proud.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would buy more treasure chest prizes for my students! They have been begging for more! With the bulk of the money, I would start college savings accounts for my own daughters.
