Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be the adult who sees students’ strengths, understands their stories, and creates a safe, predictable space for growth. Trauma‑informed teaching helps me look beyond behavior, build trust, and support students as they develop regulation, confidence, and the belief that they are capable and valued. I chose this profession because I believe every student deserves someone who won’t give up on them and I stay in it because it is the most meaningful work I can imagine.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment is watching a student I first met in 9th grade—once deeply dysregulated—grow into a grounded, kind young man. I had him in my self‑contained classroom through his entire high school career and into graduation. Seeing the strength, trust, and resilience he carries now is a transformation that will stay with me forever.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I’d take a much‑needed vacation, pay down student loan debt, and finally feel some financial breathing room. Having less stress and more stability would give me the space to rest, recharge, and show up as the grounded, present teacher my students deserve.
