Learn MoreI have wanted to be a teacher since preschool. I loved playing school with my dolls and friends, using my dad’s chalkboard as my first classroom. I even taught younger neighbors simple math. My fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Salamy, inspired me with her creativity and kindness. She made learning magical and meaningful. I strive to create that same warm, exciting environment and be as impactful as she was. I want my students to feel the same sense of enchantment and encouragement that I felt with her.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable teaching moments was helping a student who struggled with subtraction. After using blocks to model the problem, she suddenly paused and said, “Oh, I get it!” The light in her eyes when she understood it for the first time was unforgettable. She went from frustrated to confident in minutes. That moment showed me how powerful patience and creativity can be in helping a child truly believe in themselves.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won the $25,000, I would invest it directly into my classroom. I would purchase updated technology, flexible seating, and hands-on learning materials to meet all students’ needs. I would expand our classroom library with diverse books and add STEM resources to encourage creativity and critical thinking. I would also support students who need extra supplies. This award would help me create even more opportunities for my students to learn, grow, and succeed.
