Tell us why you became a teacher

As a young theatre and communications human, little did I know that all of my life experiences (from factory work to hotel management) were preparing me to be a teacher. The opportunity for me to finish college and get my teaching license (Special Ed, ELA/Com) came later in life and it was exactly what I needed to feel complete. Today, I connect with students, help them navigate their educational journey, and provide experiences to master skills so they have success in the path they choose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Most memorable for this year, I shared with my CIS Public Speaking Class (11.12 gr) I was not a fan of mice. After that I received a “Kudos” award that was signed from the mice. Prior to winter break the students hid 50 cat mouse toys around the classroom. Our little high jinks brought together all of my ELA classes 7-12 grade. It gave us something fun to talk about and integrate into our learning. Students were excited to come to class, find a mouse and start our daily work.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would purchase new furniture for my classroom. Second I would create a fund to purchase school gear for students who need school merch so they can feel like part of the school community. And finally, I would create a scholarship fund for seniors who will study the fine arts and applied in a post secondary setting.
