Tell us why you became a teacher

Ever since I can remember I have wanted to have a career that gives back. I have enjoyed my journey to becoming a teacher and all the paths along the way. I have worked in several different schools and in several different grade levels. I have always wanted to make a difference in students lives and help them to succeed and learn.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching 2nd grade, rural title 1 school. Near the end of the school year with a student struggling in math. Working on two digit addition and subtraction regrouping. I had approached the instruction in multiple different ways without success. Went to you tube to get some inspiration. I came across a song to learning the process. I used it, it worked, she got it. 8 years later and she is a sophomore at my school. She told me she still remembers me singing that song and how it made her understand

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to set up a closet/ store at my high school for students in need. A place where they can get the things they need to survive- food, drinks, clothes, shoes, back packs, hygiene products, school supplies and so much more . No money would be needed, but they could ‘shop’ for what they need. Students are often in survival mode, just trying to survive, but not having their basic needs met. How can we expect them to learn if they can’t have those things that many of take for granted.
