Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted a job where I could make a real difference in students’ lives every day. I love planning and staying organized, but what matters most to me is creating a warm, welcoming classroom where students feel comfortable, valued, and excited to learn. Watching them grow in confidence and independence is the best part of the job, especially when you can see the light bulb switch on and they truly understand what they’re learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences has been with a student who joined at the start of the year and was new to both the school and a positive school environment, while also facing difficult family situations. At first I expected a challenging year, but through patience, consistency, and relationship-building, I saw incredible growth. Now, over halfway through the year, that student has become one of my favorites and a reminder of the power of empathy in teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in my classroom by updating materials, adding flexible seating, and providing hands-on resources that better support diverse learners. I would also use part of it to build personal stability, such as securing a reliable car or saving toward a future home. This support would reduce financial stress and help me avoid taking on a second job, allowing me to devote more time, energy, and focus to supporting my students and creating the positive classroom environment they deserve.
