Jenifer Pitcel

I love being able to have an impact on a child’s view of learning and life. I have been able to help students love math.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a teacher has been a life long pursuit. My kindergarten teacher had a very positive effect on my view of teachers so this impacted me very young. Once I was older it continued because I realized I was good at helping my younger sister understand her math homework so I chose to go into middle school math. I have always loved working with children and that love has just never gone away.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I don’t know that I could pin point one moment as I have so many. I would say my favorite experience is when my students have those ah ha moments and I can see that they have understood what I taught them. I also love the moments I have through out the school year with students when they celebrate small achievements like reading an entire passage out loud for the first time, or having self control when mad at another student and they chose to not escalate a situation.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to say I would use it all to pay off my student loans but I would probably use some to also add more alternative seating to my classroom.
