Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher upon the suggestion of former teachers of mine. As I was looking for a job in marketing, I was subbing and coaching at the school district I graduated from. My former teachers told me that I needed to get into teaching because they noticed that I talked TO students and not AT them. They noticed by doing that I had a way to connect to the students by making things relevant to them that many teaches didn't do. So then I decided to get my teaching certificate.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It's hard to pick a specific teaching experience. I am very proud that I have had the opportunity to teach all three of my daughters in school. But I guess what is most memorable, is that my two youngest daughters have both got into the teaching field and they both work in the same school district that I do. ALSO, I have had numerous student that I taught in a business concept class that all developed businesses after graduating from high school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I retire in 8 years. I would save the money and take my wife on a cruise after I retire. That way if I win, not only would I be able to treat her to the part of the prize with a vacation trip to Hawaii but a cruise that she has always wanted. Because not only have I been teaching for 27 years BUT I have been coaching various sports as well. She has put with a great deal of time of being a "coach's widow" so it would be nice to treat her.
