Jasmine Valentine

I love that I get to share something I love with my students. I love watching them grow throughout the year and fall in love with science.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to share my love of science. Science allowed me to find a purpose, to find my place. If I am able to help a young student find their place through a love of a subject, that would make me so happy. I want to make a difference, showing my students that I care about them more than just as a student that takes my class.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Recently outside of the classroom we had a teacher competition. The teachers were chosen by the student in who they trusted as a mentor — I was picked as one. This meant so much to me. I ended up winning the competition and seeing how many students from each grade that were cheering me on meant more than any grade or lesson ever will. Seeing the impact I am making on these middle schools students makes me immensely grateful and happy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to get optimal supplies for my department as well as stocking my care closet I have for my students. Students often come to me for stress fidgets, hygiene products, food and more —I gladly support and supply them with what they need.
