I became a teacher because I understand firsthand the power that education has to change the trajectory of a life. Growing up in environments similar to many of the ones my students come from, I saw both the challenges and the potential that exist within our communities. I know what it feels like to need encouragement, guidance, and someone who truly believes in your ability to succeed. That understanding is what fuels my passion for teaching every single day.

One of my most memorable experiences has been teaching 7th grade math this year and seeing students I previously taught in 5th grade. Watching their growth in confidence, maturity, and academic ability has been incredibly rewarding. It reminded me that the encouragement and foundation teachers provide can have a lasting impact. Seeing their progress reaffirmed my commitment to supporting and inspiring students throughout their educational journey.

If I received $25,000, I would first honor my faith by tithing 10%. I would then invest in my daughter’s future by providing resources and opportunities that support educational equity and expand her platform for success. I would also help my mother move toward greater financial freedom as a way to thank her for her sacrifices. Finally, I would use the remaining funds as part of a down payment toward purchasing a home and building generational stability.
