Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help students gain enjoyment in learning and to teach the foundation of what they will need to be successful in their own lives. I have always known that I would be a teacher since I was young and have always worked with children, whether it was in a daycare through my high school or summer camp. I had several wonderful influences that were my teachers throughout my education, and also my parents as well who are both educators.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was at the beginning of my career. I had a student who struggled in reading and I worked with her along other teachers to prepare her for her state test. She passed all of her tests and I was extremely proud of her. It allowed me to see how influential teachers are in children's lives. It is so important to be that encouragement and positive influence for a student.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would donate to Title I schools to help fund resources, supplies, field trips, and after school programs. I am very passionate about Title I schools and have taught at them for all of my career. I think the $25,000 would benefit them greatly and will allow students to receive resources that will help students enhance their education and learning experiences.
