I teach PreK students, who have challenges. My joy is seeing them grow and learn, when many say they can’t. I see the able, not the label.

I went to school to be an accountant and that is what I got my degree in. After staying home to take care of my children, I started subbing in the schools. I found enjoy teaching the most challenging students, so I decided to pursue my certification in teaching. My passion to teach became something I guess I always wanted and didn’t realize until later. I wanted to make a difference in children lives after my own child gave me a run for my money during her schooling.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience actually came as I was a longtime substitute teacher in a PreK classroom. One of my students was nonverbal had cerebral palsy and only wanted to be a normal boy. I taught him and allowed him to feel like a normal boy. Everyone thought I was crazy for placing him in a regular kindergarten class but just because he had a feeding tube, couldn’t speak or walk, he shouldn’t be denied being in the general education classroom. He thrives today.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would like to maybe continue my education in special education. I would love to start a homeschool for challenging students. So many people think this children aren’t going to make anything of themselves and I want to prove them wrong.
