Tell us why you became a teacher

One summer I was tutoring in the Math lab at my college. I had not considered being a teacher but I spent the summer with a student who had been in a life altering crash. He was in a wheel chair and it seemed no one wanted to help him. I made it my mission to be the tutor he needed. At the end of the summer he came to me after passing his math class and said if you had not been patient with me and open to helping me, I wouldn't be where I am today. You believed in me and never let me fail myself

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One semester my Seniors in Environmental Sci were hard to reach. So I went rogue on my lesson. It was Spring and we went out to harvest. Farm to table lesson with dandelions. My city kids harvested and prepped and I walked them through making jelly. Students who never had seen or made their own food, literally spent two lessons doing so and taking home a small jar of dandelion jelly.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to start a program to help people in the city to learn how they can do small family gardens which would then lead to teach them to harvest, can and cook their own food by their hands. I of course would like to take few trips across the US and maybe world wide!
