Tell us why you became a teacher

I was volunteering for the International Nature Network in Greece, and the organization needed an environmental educator to teach Outdoor Ed to 20 Athenian elementary students. I had never taught a day in my life, and I was petrified! Once I realized the students were just as nervous, we all had fun learning together. By the end of the program, all twenty students hugged me at the same time. I knew in that moment that I wanted to become a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experiences are when I hear from former students. My very first 3rd grade class has graduated from college, and it means the world to know they are thriving and being the kindness heroes of our world.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Truly, $25,000 is a whole lot of money for an educator. I know for certain that I would give half of it to my parents to thank them for all the sacrifices they made so that I could have a good education. With the rest of the money, I would probably fix our kitchen…and take a well-earned summer vacation. I’ve always wanted to travel to Iceland. I’ve heard the people there are exceptionally kind.
