Too many children are growing up without a positive adult role model. I teach to help students make a meaningful impact on their world.

As cliche as it is, I have been honoured to have been taught, influenced, and mentored by individuals whom I consider to be world-class teachers: those who inspired me, challenged me, and proved to me that teachers were human beings. I chose this profession to honour their legacies, tell their stories, and offer young people the opportunities to become the people they were meant to be, much like my teachers did for me.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy first long term teaching contract: a class of struggling preteens that couldn’t read, write, do math, or coexist peacefully. I helped them win awards, positive recognition in the school and community, and see themselves as capable humans. I didn’t find out my impact until years later, when I was called to speak at the graduation - something most of them didn’t think they’d achieve when they were in my grade seven class. I’m honoured to have been one small part of their journey.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would fund better science and STEM education in our community by developing a mobile hands on science lab!
