Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be a positive role model for students and make a lasting impact in their lives. I want to show them they are capable, valued, and supported. Teaching also allows me to work with like-minded educators who are passionate about helping children grow. Most importantly, I chose this path to give back to the same community and school system that helped shape me into who I am today.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable Merrill experiences was taking my students on a field trip to the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond. Seeing their excitement as they explored the hands-on exhibits and made real-world connections to what we were learning in class was incredibly rewarding. It was meaningful to watch their curiosity grow outside the classroom and to share that experience together as a group. Moments like that remind me why I love teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received the $25,000, I would first do something special for my family to show my appreciation for their constant love and support. I would also use it to move into a new home or apartment to create a more stable and comfortable living space. Lastly, I would invest in classes toward earning my master’s degree in educational leadership to continue growing professionally and better serve my students and school community.
