Jaimie Malbrough

I love teaching because I get to show up for kids, watch it click, and know the chaos and long days actually mean something.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves someone who sees their potential and refuses to give up on them. I love watching confidence grow, curiosity spark, and hard work pay off. Teaching isn’t just a job to me; it’s a calling. I get to build relationships, create a safe place to learn, and help shape the future one student at a time.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most meaningful experiences was with a student who struggled daily. He didn’t trust adults and had major tantrums, often refusing to work. Instead of focusing on behavior, I focused on connection. I built trust, stayed consistent, and met him where he was. Over time, the tantrums stopped and he began to love school. At the end of the year, his mom gave me fairy wand earrings, saying I was his fairy godmother. That reminded me that connection is the real magic in teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded $25,000, I would use it to help pay for fertility treatments. My husband and I have been struggling to grow our family, and the financial burden has made it impossible to continue treatments. This opportunity would give us renewed hope and the chance to keep pursuing our dream of becoming parents. It would truly change our lives in the most meaningful way.
