Tell us why you became a teacher

I have been working as a teacher in childcare programs, preschool programs, and TK classes for over 20 years. I do it because that’s what I love to do. I enjoy coming to my class every day planning projects that keep the children, engaged and build in love for learning . I became an early childhood education teacher because I learned the importance of birth through five and brain growth during this time. The importance of early education in the first five years and the use it or lose it theory.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Wining 2nd place in a Learning Genie blog competition about running educationally appropriate transitional kindergarten classes to help new teaching in the district learn about this new program. I was able to use my past knowledge from teaching in early education to my child development background in teaching other educators to run a developmentally appropriate classroom. That was a very memorable teaching experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to win the $25,000 I would use it to put a down payment on my first house. I would love to purchase something for my children and I to call ours, a home. Working hard for 20 years as a single mom, that is something I would love to achieve show my children where hard work can get them. Isn’t that the American dream. Work hard and buy a place you can call Home!
