Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help our children. So many of our children have slipped through the cracks of not being able to read or know how to do math. I was a tutor for 10 years and I watched how the students eyes opened to reading. Sometimes we as adults need to read as well so students know what reading should sound like. When it comes to math just them getting the basics of math, adding, subtraction, and multiplication was a struggle but they got it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I taught K4. I had a student who had a speech impediment. He did get pulled out for speech but in all group phonics he was not catching on. I bought a cookie sheet and the magnet letters to help him. I also used my two fingers and held it to my mouth to help him form the sounds with his mouth. At the end he was talking so much better and tested out of speech. It takes a village.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off some bills and finish getting my social degree. I thought a house and I need some things up graded. Thank you for this opportunity.
