Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up without a father, I felt the void of a consistent male role model. I became a teacher to be the steady, positive presence I once lacked. I’m driven by the mission of leading our future generation, showing them that their circumstances don’t define their potential. I love making math come alive; there’s nothing like the "aha!" moment when a student realizes math is fun. Off the clock, I channel my competitive spirit into coaching basketball, teaching kids that excellence requires both.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The highlight of my career was being named Houston’s Teacher of the Month. Seeing my students’ faces when Clutch, the Rockets mascot, walked in with a pizza party was unforgettable. Being recognized on the court at halftime and seeing my name on the Jumbotron was an honor, but the true reward was sharing that success with my kids. It showed them that hard work in the classroom is celebrated on the biggest stages, reinforcing the importance of community and excellence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As the sole provider for my family of four, winning would be life-changing. My dream is to secure a home where my 2-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter have a backyard to play in. However, I wouldn't be here without my students. I’d set aside a few thousand to throw them a giant celebration—taking them to Main Event and a trampoline park for a day of fun and lunch. They are the reason for my success, and I want them to feel like winners right alongside me.
