Tell us why you became a teacher

I started teaching because caring for children has always been part of my life. My grandmother was a foster mother, and helping her showed me how much love and guidance kids need. Later, as a nanny and substitute teacher, I saw how quickly children absorb knowledge. Teaching kindergarten confirmed my purpose. Early learning is everything—when children build strong foundations in reading and math, they build stronger futures. I want every child to realize their potential before the world decides

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable year of teaching came after a year when I felt like I had failed. I was told I might not be cut out for teaching. Instead of quitting, I spent the summer learning, growing, and leaning on people who believed in me. The next year, every one of my students scored at or above benchmark. That moment wasn’t just their victory—it proved that growth, perseverance, and belief can change everything.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning $25,000 would allow me to give my students opportunities they’ve been missing. They haven’t had a field trip in three years, and I would use the prize to fund buses and meaningful learning experiences outside the classroom. I would also invest part of it in my home to create more financial stability. Most importantly, I would take my 71-year-old father to Africa, fulfilling a dream he has carried for decades.
