I became a teacher because I know what it feels like to struggle in school. Growing up with dyslexia & ADHD, learning did not come easily. Educators like Rob Hosier & Martha Smith believed in me when I doubted myself. Their patience and encouragement showed me that challenges do not define potential. I became a teacher to support students who feel the same way.

One of my most memorable teaching moments is when former students come back and share the incredible things they’ve accomplished. I’ve had students return as national champion cheerleaders, members of the drum line at one of the most famous HBCUs, and even actors in Super Bowl commercials. Seeing their success and hearing their stories reminds me that the encouragement & support given in the classroom can have a lasting impact far beyond graduation.

If I received the $25,000 prize for, I would use the funds to make much-needed improvements to our fine arts spaces, especially our theater. Our fine arts programs give students opportunities to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Upgrading lighting, sound, and stage equipment would improve productions and learning experiences. Investing in fine arts ensures students have the resources they need to grow, perform, and share their talents with the community.
