Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to mentor, coach, and give back to my Native community. Inspired by teachers who believed in me, I aim to support students academically and athletically, teaching resilience, teamwork, and hard work. Returning to my old school, I’m reminded of life’s full circle, like the sacred Navajo circle, and strive to encourage students to reach their potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most unforgettable moments was seeing a shy student transform into someone who believed in themselves. Watching their confidence grow in class and on the court reminded me why I teach, to be the person who encourages, supports, and inspires students to reach their full potential.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d buy a community basketball goal. A safe place for kids to play, grow, and learn teamwork and confidence. On the Navajo reservation, basketball is more than a game; it’s a way out. I’d also invest in professional development to become a better teacher and coach, so I can guide students even more effectively. Together, these investments would inspire, support, and empower our youth to dream big and reach their potential.
