Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher to help those struggling with ELA, Math, and Science. I dedicated my life to helping others. My goal is to teach those students who need guidance and help them achieve their dreams, as I didn’t always have that support. I had three teachers who were instrumental in my life who has shaped me into the teacher I am today. I want to be a beacon of light for young people navigating their dreams, goals, and aspirations.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My memorable teaching moments is when I see a students' "aha" moment. When I'm teaching a concept or explaining it differently. I see that understanding dawn on their faces. It's like when they finally grasp a reading passage, solve a math problem, or critically think in a science application. It fills me with joy. It's incredible to see their confidence on their faces grow as they realize they can achieve their ideas without me. Those moments are when their faces light up with understanding.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were chosen to win the prize money, I would give 10% to my church and provide supplies that would enable the students to enhance their educational goals. I would like to launch boutique tutoring services to help students pass standardized tests. I would then help my son and daughter to advance their careers in education. This would help them with one semester of graduate school. It is important to give back to the community while also helping my family achieve their goals. Education is key.
