Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help students who struggle with math see it from a different perspective and begin to feel confident instead of overwhelmed. I want them to move away from fear and the belief that they will never understand, and instead realize they are capable of learning and growing. Helping students build that confidence and develop a more positive relationship with math is what drives me every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was helping a student who struggled to read fluently and often repeated words. We worked on a “stop and chop” reading strategy, and over time she became a confident, fluent reader. When I left after student teaching, she was emotional and thanked me for helping her improve. That moment showed me the real impact I can have and is something I will always carry with me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I would focus on building my financial future and supporting my goals. I’d put a large portion into savings or investments to grow over time and create long-term security. I’d also dedicate a meaningful portion to my classroom by purchasing engaging resources, technology, and supplies that enhance learning, support different learning styles, and give my students more opportunities to succeed.
