Hannah Holder

I love teaching because God gave me a talent to teach at risk youth, and watch them succeed after struggling.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher when I was working at a residential facility. My goal was to become a probation officer with my BS degree in criminal justice, but I was told that I didn’t have enough experience at the time when I applied for probation officer jobs while I worked at the residential facility for children. During that time, I was I naturally gravitated towards helping the boys I worked with on school work. I was asked to become a math tutor. That’s when I decided to be a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I was able to teach a unit on To kill a Mocking Bird. After reading the book, we watched the movie. As part of the movie, I made foods from that time period. My students resonated and made connections because of the food.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take half of it and put it towards my daughter’s first car when she turns 16. The other half I would use to renovate my bathroom in my house.
