I have thought about this question a lot. Almost 40 years 🫢(1987)ago I realized that students spend almost eight hours away from their home. When I had to choose a career, I reflected on my time as a nanny, after school counselor, and tutor in college and high school. I decided that I wanted to provide a fun, purposeful, rigorous learning, and caring environment for the students to look forward to being a part of every day. Now 30+ years later, we’re still having fun as we progress each day.

So many! I guess some of the most and best memories are of when we were creating the Vance Peace Garden. We grew snow peas, carrots and sunflowers to have for snacks. That led to the creation of the school/ community garden. This program has been integrated into each elementary school in Asheville City Schools. The students also participated in creating a Cobb garden shed. Stamping clay, water, straw and sand has left a lasting impression. Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill, Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Wow! So much money. My first thought is to save a significant amount for my husband’s and my retirement. Then I two daughters who have recently graduated from college. I would love to give them a few grand to tuck away or pay off student loans. I would also give a donation to the Hurricane Helene victims still affected in western NC. And of course put some money towards my classroom which usually comes from my own money. Also if possible I small vacation for my husband and me finally!!🤪
