Learn MoreI became a teacher because of my first‑grade teacher, Kelly Friend. Even while battling cancer, she taught with kindness, compassion, and love. She made our classroom feel safe and inspired us through her children’s book, Miss Friend on Sunshine Street. Her strength and heart shaped the educator I strive to be today.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was watching a struggling student finally believe in themselves. After weeks of small steps and encouragement, they read aloud confidently for the first time. Seeing their pride and the class cheering them on reminded me why I teach, to help students feel capable, valued, and brave.
What would you do with the $25,000?Working in a Title I school, I would use the $25,000 to support my students and provide resources our campus often goes without. I would also use part of the funds to continue my own education as a teacher, allowing me to grow professionally and better serve the students who need it most.
