I teach for the connections formed with kids, those “aha” moments, and seeing their joy when reading a good book.

Tell us why you became a teacher

My life has been blessed by teachers, from kindergarten to college. I loved school, and when deciding what to pursue, those things were definitely factors. My teachers built me up and supported me in every endeavor: I wanted to pay it forward.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have been teaching for 35 years, so there have been many memorable moments. When I taught elementary music, we performed musicals. Many years later, after I had switched to teaching high school, I had those same kids in class. Hearing them talk about how much they loved those performances and how having their speaking and singing parts helped them realize they loved performing was such a blessing. I realized that things we as adults may not recognize as significant could mean the world to kids

What would you do with the $25,000?

Honestly? I would pay off some debt, go on a trip, and buy the books that the school can’t afford for my classes.
