I became a Spanish teacher because language has the power to open doors, build bridges, and give students a voice in a world that is increasingly interconnected. Spanish is more than a subject; it is a living expression of culture, identity, and history. I chose this profession to help students see language not as a requirement, but as a tool for understanding others and themselves.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Growing up, I witnessed how language can either include or exclude. I have seen students and families struggle to communicate, to be understood, or to feel valued because of language barriers. These experiences shaped my desire to teach Spanish with purpose and compassion. I wanted to become the educator I once needed; someone who encourages confidence, pride, and perseverance in bilingual learners. As a Spanish teacher, I am committed to empowering students academically and personally.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I get the opportunity to earn the $25,000, I would aim higher to make a difference and to help students find their voice, honor their heritage, and realize that their language is a powerful asset. Through education, I aim to shape confident learners who will use their skills to connect, uplift, and lead in an interconnected community.
