Tell us why you became a teacher

I had a high school teacher, Ms. Wolf, who made me feel like I can be anything, can do anything. At a time in my life when I felt very limited, She encouraged me to see the value and intelligence in myself that I thought was missing. I strive to show my students that same value no matter their culture, socioeconomic background, gender, religion, life circumstances. Each of our students has a talent, an intelligence, a purpose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

At science camp last year, where there were only landlines for emergency communication with parents, a student looked at me and said, “Growing up in the 80’s must have been great!” I replied, “It was, why do you think so?” She replied, “ I like being disconnected and just learning about science, I have never been so relaxed!” Since that this student had pushed for “Disconnect days” for social and metal health. It inspired me to find teachable moments in even the smallest activity.
