In the DLI classroom, I have the unique opportunity to bridge cultures and provide students with the tools they need to succeed. My goal is to inspire them to raise their voices and become confident, global citizens who can make a difference in the world.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable experience was integrating my culture into my 1st-grade DLI classroom. I introduced my students to new history, food, and traditions through Music, Art, and Culinary Arts. They were so engaged that they began speaking Spanish more than ever before. Seeing them embrace a new world while confidently using their language skills was incredibly rewarding. It proved the power of culturally responsive teaching to motivate and inspire young learners.
What would you do with the $25,000?As a 1st-grade DLI Spanish, Math, and Science teacher, this money would help me enhance my students' skills in Dual Language Immersion. I would invest in flexible seating and learning resources to create a more accessible and engaging environment for all my students. I would also love to use these funds to support our school's efforts in helping our English Language Learners, as well as those learning Spanish through our DLI program.
