Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I realized my greatest impact wasn't on the field, but in the classroom. While playing pro football, volunteering at schools showed me that students need mentors who understand grit and resilience. I earned my Master’s in History to bridge the gap between being an athlete and an educator, trading touchdowns for the chance to coach the next generation through the 'game film' of our past. Now, I help students become All-Americans in their own lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My first job was a turning point. Many students began far below grade level on their STAAR tests, facing huge academic gaps. I applied the same 'game film' discipline I learned in pro football to our data, coaching them through every setback. By year’s end, the majority didn't just pass—they surged into 'Meets' and 'Masters' on district assessments. Seeing their confidence explode when they realized they were winners remains my greatest victory off the field.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will invest the $25,000 into a 'History in Motion' mobile lab. As a former pro athlete, I know that hands-on engagement is key to performance. I'll purchase VR headsets for virtual historical tours, interactive primary source displays, and digital research tools. This funding will ensure my students—especially those behind grade level—have the 'game-day' technology they need to see history as a living story they can master. My family will want some treats with what’s leftover!
