Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love to encourage students to be their very best. It brings me joy to recognize a student's gifts and talents when they don't recognize them. Once they realize what their talents are, I encourage them to practice and fine tune them. We even have moments when we discuss their future careers.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened during Black History Month a few years ago during a creative writing project. The students' task for the assignment was to come up with their own Folk Tale which would be displayed on a poster. One of my students' was upset because he was questioning why black people were celebrated for a month and not white people. As days went by and he learned more about Black History, he created the best Folk Tale poster in my class. I was very proud of him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 25,000 dollars I would pay off some debt and start a business account for the children's books that I'm currently creating. My books are focused on honoring my faith, family members, childhood / family traditions, and they model the ways that children can be kind to one another. Every book will have an inspiring message, and will leave the reader with a feeling of nostalgia.
