Learn MoreAs a teen, I did everything I could to avoid school. Then one rushed scholarship form changed my life when I accidentally chose Tech Ed instead of Industrial Design. A year later, I was told I had to teach, and I panicked. But the moment I stepped into a shop classroom, everything clicked. Teaching Engineering & Technology felt natural, and I fell in love with it. Now I strive to be the teacher I needed, showing students that school can become the best part of their day.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceNothing beats the rush and happiness of seeing my students win competitions and help their community. Last year a team of my engineering students entered a competition with their STEM Educational Kit to help younger students be exposed to STEM subjects. They spent so much time at the Boys and Girls club and local elementary schools pitching their kit. It was thrilling when they won a Bronze medal at the state level competitions and they have since continued their community outreach. It's amazing
What would you do with the $25,000?With today’s funding gaps, this prize would be a game changer. I would use it to improve my engineering classroom by organizing and upgrading some things, creating an inspiring space where students can truly build and create. We would love to organize the space and add a couple of new 3D printers for our engineering class. I would also continue my own education to grow as an engineer and teacher. And of course, a well-earned taco party and some cool swag for my students!
