Tell us why you became a teacher

I originally became a teacher because of my love for learning, but once I stepped into the classroom I realized my true purpose was to inspire young people to love science. Too many students believe they “can’t” learn it, and I want to change that narrative. I want them to see that science is for them; that they are capable, curious, and brilliant beyond measure.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I just recently had an unforgettable moment in the lab with a group of girls. When their experiment worked, their faces lit up and they let out a collective “WOW”! That spark of excitement, seeing learning come alive in real time, was everything. It was one of those heartwarming reminders of why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I win the $25,000, I would love to sponsor a trip to the Keys and take a group of my girl students to the Marine Lab in Key Largo to participate in one of their hands-on programs. Creating that kind of real-world science experience would be unforgettable for them. I would also use part of the funds to help pay down my student loans.
