Emma Moore

I love teaching because I love seeing that "lightbulb" moment students have when everything clicks together in their mind.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I had amazing teachers who changed my life, especially in high school. School was my safe place away from the minor chaos of my home. My teachers were always there for me, always willing to lend an ear. Without them I do not think I would've graduated high school, let alone college..twice. They inspired me to be the best version of myself, and I wanted to pay that forward and help the next generation of students. Even if it is just one student, it makes it all worth it

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It is hard to pick a favorite, but my most memorable teaching experience would be the first time I ran a Trench Warfare simulation with my AP World History class. Students created their trenches from desks and blankets and had to "capture" a hall pass from the opposing team without getting hit (paper balls as ammunition) . Every round they had access to new "technology" including Febreeze as a substitute chemical weapon. I think it really drove home the point the total devastation of WWI.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to use the money to support my school community: I teach at the same school I graduated from, and work with the same teachers who got me through school. I would like to not only pay for a well deserved vacation for them, but also contribute to our district's education foundation to help support other teachers in my district provide the best experiences for our students. I would also like to throw a large graduation party for my first students next summer in 2027!
