Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I had a 7th and 8th grade English teacher who inspired me, along with my mom and aunt. I also just love working with kids, and I have a passion for my subject area, English.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was helping a kid who did not have a home. I would have working lunches to help him succeed. I also worked very closely in small groups to make sure that he stayed on track even though his life outside of school was very hard. I offered emotional support as well not just academic. It made me realize in practice that students must feel safe first before learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would first donate to either a children’s medical or education organization, such as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I would also use some of the winnings to help my students continue to feel supported and loved with their education.
