Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because every child deserves to be supported, valued, and successful. I want students to feel safe, confident, and able to take risks while learning. I teach to provide opportunities for students in and out of the classroom at my school, celebrate growth, and help them discover their voice so they know they matter.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In my 5th grade classroom, one of my most memorable moments was watching a quiet student solve a problem at the thinking board after days/weeks of saying, “I can’t.” Their classmates cheered, they smiled from ear to ear, and then right back to try another. That moment, confidence replacing doubt and joy replacing fear, is why I teach. Seeing students realize they are capable and belong changes everything.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest it directly into my Title I school by providing supplies and resources that expand opportunities for every learner in and out of the classroom. I would grow and strengthen “Building Thinking Classroom” practices so students collaborate, problem-solve, and build confidence as learners. I would also support our elementary music programming with improved stage lighting and microphones so students can be seen and heard on stage.
