Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my previous teachers! My love for reading and writing made choosing a college major easy, and the impact my previous teachers had on me helped with the career path. I value the opportunity to not only share knowledge with students, but to also gain knowledge from them too. Teaching is new and exciting everyday, but provides consistent opportunities to make a difference, spread kindness, and show my students the love they deserve.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened this year, with one of my students and volleyball players. I get the opportunity to teach and coach, which is amazing. The team went to the Championship this season, but we came up short. As devastating as it was, after the game, the team captain thanked me for the season. He said he didn't care that we lost, because we worked hard and had fun anyway. He talked about how volleyball changed his experience at school, and it was impactful to hear.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay money toward my student loans, as I have some from my undergraduate and MA program. I would set aside money for new books for my students and classroom supplies to enhance my ability to teach.
