It sounds cliche, but I became a teacher because I wanted to have a positive impact on kids in the same way that my teachers made a positive impact on me. Teaching isn't just about content - but about instilling the value of lifelong learning in the next generation. Kids need someone in their corner rooting for them!

My most memorable teaching experience comes from a former student of mine reaching out to me during their first year of college. This student thanked me for preparing them, teaching them things that paid off in their college anatomy class, and for continuing to be there for them after graduation. It brought me to tears and was one of those moments that helped me remember why I chose this career.

I would use the $25,000 for a remodel of our science department. There is only one other science teacher besides me teaching our entire high school all of the science courses and labs. We are a low income school with a small budget for class materials and lab supplies. Most of our equipment is old and in need of replacing. Upgrading the lab space for the students would be a dream!
