I teach beginning band to 4th and 5th graders. It is the most rewarding job in the world. I change lives, but my students change mine more.

Learn MoreI became a teacher because I always looked up to my teachers as role models, especially my elementary music teacher Mrs. Whindisch. She made music the best part about going to school and since I was young I wanted to be just like her!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThe best teaching moment I've had was when my 100+ 5th grade band students got to join the local high school for their concert. After we performed, the high schoolers and audience erupted in applause, making half of my students cry happy tears. It was so magical to watch their eyes light up on stage after impressing a large auditorium filled with over 500 people!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would love to start an instrument repair business and offer free/ low cost instrument repairs to the local schools around me. Band is being cut by so many districts because of the cost of instrument repairs, and I would love to be able to prevent that from happening!
