Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to be a change maker. Although I don’t remember her name due to moving often as a child, I will never forget the impact my kindergarten teacher had on me. She created a kind, safe classroom where every student felt seen, valued and encouraged. Her example inspired me to do the same. I believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential and succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I don’t have a single most memorable teaching experience, but some of my favorite moments come when I see a concept finally click for my students. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching their faces light up when something that once felt challenging suddenly makes sense. Seeing their confidence grow and hearing them say, “Oh, I get it now!” reminds me why I became a teacher and makes every challenge worthwhile.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would first set aside a portion in savings to create greater financial stability for myself. I would also invest in my classroom by purchasing flexible seating and clipboards to give my students more comfortable and engaging ways to learn. Additionally, I would use part of the funds as a down payment on reliable transportation. Lastly, I would dedicate some of the money to supporting my family and giving back to my community.
