Teaching keeps me from existential depression, truly. It brings me so much joy to inspire and foster students’ love of math.

Learn MoreI fell into teaching and never really left! I started out as a substitute for an elementary school and went there every day. I worked with SPED and Pre-K to 5th, then decided to get my certificate and continue teaching. I've left teaching twice and returned twice because I can't stay away for too long. I've now taught elementary, middle and high school in a ten-year career (I'm only 30!), and have even taught some students for multiple grade levels.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy favorite classroom memory is The Great Math 8 Tricycle Race! We had an algebra lesson where the textbook said "Later in this chapter your class will compete in a tricycle race," and I brought it fully to life! Think big 8th graders on their little siblings' tricycles, racing around outside, timing themselves and making connections to linear functions. We did an in-class activity, then invited the entire school to watch a tricycle relay race. We even ended up getting newspaper coverage!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would put most of the money toward a down payment on a house. I have a classroom setup in my living room currently because I tutor students and teach online, so I would use some of the money to build that out as well so I can keep supporting students! The rest would be invested or saved, of course: compound interest is one of the best parts of math!
