Tell us why you became a teacher

A week before the start of my cohort for Nursing School I changed my major to Mathematics and minor to secondary education. Once I started my education classes I felt at home. During my internship my mentor teacher was going through some devastating personal issues which left me in charge of the class most of the time. I loved the planning, students’ curiosity, and teaching a subject hated by most. From that point I was hooked!

‘James’, was assigned to my class. From the beginning people told me he was trouble, I didn’t care he was one of my kids and deserved an education. A few weeks later, James came up to me and asked if he could talk to me about some personal issues and I was more than happy to do so. He confided in me about his troubled life and what he goes through as a gang member and such. I listened and gave him some advice. That day changed James, he came to me daily and became one of my top students. ♥️

What would you do with the $25,000?

It is a lot of money. I would probably make a down payment on a new car, get one of those fancy tablets which would allow me to write on the IWB while circulating the room , and use the rest for supplies I need in my classroom so kids can learn better and get excited about math. I usually spend a lot of my own money on materials used in my classroom Also, my colleagues are always needing paper, I would buy several boxes of paper for them so they wouldn’t have to spend their own money on it.
