Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because one woman’s belief changed my life. In fourth grade, I struggled with multiplication and long division and felt embarrassed and small. She never let me give up. She sat beside me with patience, treated me like her own, and believed in me until I believed in myself. Now, as a third grade teacher, I understand that a single moment of belief can shape a child’s future — and I teach like that moment matters.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This year, I worked closely with a new ELL student who arrived shy and far below grade level in reading. She needed daily one-on-one support and rarely spoke in class. Over time, with patience and encouragement, she began raising her hand, taking risks, and discovering a love for books. The day she proudly read aloud without fear, I realized I wasn’t just teaching her English — I was helping her find her voice.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would create a flexible, student-centered classroom with adaptable seating and a diverse library that reflects a wide range of cultures, genres, and reading levels. I would also use part of the funds to support school-wide literacy initiatives so more students benefit. As teachers often self-fund essential resources, this investment would directly impact learning. A small portion would allow me to rest and return renewed for my students.
